Well guys, I can phone it in for the next 2 weeks because this is probably the best I will look this year. My office holiday party was black tie (lawyers…so pretentious, right?) so I took full advantage of the opportunity to look fancy. I knew at a formal event – especially one full of attorneys – there would be a lot of long black dresses, so in an effort to stand out, I went for a short white one. I know a little white dress is usually more of a warm weather thing, but the texture of this one kind of reminded me of a snowflake, and I decided to add Santa-red shoes and lips. In other words, if you thought this was a summer dress…what the hell were you thinking?

I felt like a celebrity on an award show red carpet in this, so in that spirit I feel like I should give some credit to the people who helped me look so good: my wife for taking really great photos, my friend and stylist Brandy for giving me this braid crown, Rent the Runway for existing so I could rent a dress I can’t afford to buy, and Pure Barre for helping me get in great shape over the past 4 months! And my mom. Because you always have to thank your mom.

Has anyone else noticed that December is a busy month? Because it totally is. But not the kind of busy where you sweat through your blazer and just want the week to be over. December’s the kind of busy where you say bring on the hot chocolate cuz I’ve got festive shit to do.

December weekends are usually full with parties and such, so we try to fit in some other Christmassy activities on weeknights after work. Tonight we’re going to Christmas at the Zoo, and last week (when I wore this) we went to see a high school production of the Nutcracker. If your high school was anything like mine, that probably sounds horrible. But this was an arts magnet school and it was actually pretty darn good. I say this as a very judgmental former dancer, so you know it must be true. It was a somewhat condensed version, but I’m not complaining because – let’s be honest – that ballet is too freaking long. It’s like, pirouette a little a faster, ladies…We’ve got a lot of dancing candy to get to.

Anyway, I chose this outfit because it was equal parts professional lawyer and wannabe ballerina. I really hate changing clothes in a bathroom stall, so I wanted something that would work for the whole day. Which reminds me…I better sign off so I can plan my office-to-orangutan outfit.
