If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen me mention the 30×30 remix challenge. And you’ve probably thought to yourself, “what the hell is she yammering on about this time?” If you find style/wardrobe challenges annoying and pointless, well, it wasn’t my idea. Blame Kendi. Her blog was one of the first ones I ever followed, and was probably subconsciously an inspiration for this little space on the Internet where I’ve been posting my basic, everyday outfits and doing lots of yammering for the past 7 years (so again, blame Kendi).

Earlier this month Kendi announced she was revisiting a remix challenge she created way back in 2009. Reading her post made me nostalgic for the “old days” of style blogging. I am by no means a trailblazer in this arena, but I have been blogging for a lot longer than many of today’s “influencers.” It doesn’t make me better at it, but it does give me a different perspective. Nowadays, a lot of bloggers mainly post their content on Instagram, they have many thousands of followers thanks to their beautiful, flawless photos, and they can make a decent income by partnering with brands and pushing products. (To be clear, I have no judgment for these women. In fact, I follow lots of them. If what they do were easy, then I’d be doing it too.)

But back in my day (said in my best grandma voice), style blogging wasn’t so much about getting people to buy exactly what you were wearing – it was about sharing ideas and encouraging other people to be creative. Kendi did it with her 30×30 Remix, and I did a similar thing with my “Take One, Pass It On” challenge.

So call me old-fashioned, but I’m thrilled to join in on the 30×30 Remix reboot! You can read all about it here, but basically: Take 30 items in your closet. Create 30+ outfits and wear them. The rest of the rules (and how strictly you follow them) are up to you.

So far, I’m 9 outfits in! Here’s one, and you can see some of the others on my Instagram. Hope you enjoy this little style adventure, and feel free to join in any time!

Lots of people like to emulate their role models’ style. But I happen to identify more with cats than with people, which is why I like to wear leopard print. It’s also why I like to sleep and glare at people, but that’s neither here nor there.
