Sometimes when I see an outfit blog where the clothes go just a little too perfectly with the background, I assume the whole thing was editorialized. If I saw this post on another blog, that’s probably what I would think. But cross my heart and hope to die, I did indeed wear this on Saturday (for our end-of-the-year law review banquet), and I had no idea that just a block away from the venue was this mural. When I saw it, I just knew this was the universe making things work for me. (The universe doesn’t have anything better to do. For a while it was fighting scientists on the whole “Pluto’s not a planet anymore” thing, but it gave up. After the universe had some laughs watching the Bill Nye v. Ken Ham debate, its schedule really opened up and now it’s just working on smaller projects like making cool blog photo shoots happen.)

Since this is my sixth Looking Lucky post and we’re just about halfway through the month, I also want to take a second to remind everyone about this challenge and how to participate. The short version is: The Looking Lucky challenge gives you 10 trends to work into your outfits this month. If you’re a blogger and you do all 10, you’ll be entered to win a $75 gift card (to the store where I got this dress)! Even if you’re not a blogger but you’re on Instagram, you can enter to win one of the weekly $15 gift cards just by posting a photo of yourself wearing any of the 10 trends. I’ve loved seeing everybody’s posts so far! If you haven’t joined in yet, there’s still plenty of time. Get more details in this post.

Spring Wish List: Where I’ll Spend & Where I’ll Save

I find that keeping a list (usually in a note on my iPhone) of things I’d like to add to my closet helps keep me from making impulse buys when I’m out shopping. This season I’m taking it a step further and dividing up my wish list items by the amount I want to spend on them. Good news: even my “big ticket” items are under $100. Here’s to a frugal spring!

Spring Wish list - big ticket items

Dress (Anthropologie) // Jeans (Express)

Spring wish list - medium ticket items
Jacket (Kohl’s) // Skirt (J. Crew Factory)

Spring wish list - small ticket items

Jacket (Kohl’s) // Lipstick (Nordstrom)
