I had to get my portrait taken at work this week for my official bio page on the firm website. So of course I put a little extra thought into my outfit, particularly from the shoulders up. Structured blazer: obviously. But I didn’t want to look like every other black-and-white-wearing floating head, so I came up with this softer but still serious look. I guess it worked because one of my coworkers (who didn’t know I was getting my photos taken) said I looked like I was about to take someone down.

THAT’S BECAUSE I MEAN BUSINESS. 🙂

Most of my lawyerly clothes are machine washable, but some of them like this jacket and dress fare better with dry cleaning. I might be fancy enough to have a bio page with a professional photo, but I’m not fancy enough to have my dry cleaning picked up and delivered. So in the meantime I’m perfectly happy to freshen this outfit up at home with Dryel. In case you aren’t familiar with this stuff, you can see my first Dryel post here. Yeah, sure, they pay me to talk about the product, but I really do use it. Without it, my nicer pieces of my grown-up wardrobe would either (a) never get washed or (b) end up shrunken or misshapen beyond repair. And nobody wants to hire a misshapen lawyer.

Thanks to Dryel for sponsoring this post. While Dryel is compensating me for mentioning their product, I had total control over the content of this post.

It happened. Today’s the day. My twenty-tenth birthday. That’s what comes after twenty-nine, right? Twenty-ten? Ugh, OK, fine. I’m thirty. It’s not that I think thirty is old, it’s just that it sounds weird to say. Do any other former-20-somethings know what I mean? The last time you changed the first number in your age, it was exciting because you weren’t a teenager anymore. Who worries about getting old when they turn 20? No one. You just want to hurry up and turn 21. Fast forward 9 years and you’ve probably graduated from something, maybe gotten married, acquired a couple kids and/or pets, and there’s not really another age to get excited about until you qualify for Medicare. But at least your age always started with a “2.” Suddenly it turns into a “3” and you wonder where the last decade went.

Well, now that I think about it, a lot of decent stuff has happened in the past 10 years. The last decade gained me a bachelor’s degree, a car, a cat, a wife, a blog, a law degree, a good job, and (most recently) a house. Not too shabby, right? And I’m only 30 🙂

P.S. If you want to give me a birthday gift (and of course you d0), I’d love a pin or a tweet linking to this post! The gift of new blog readers is the greatest gift of all.
