An Outfit & a Movie Review!

leopard2leopard3
leopard4 leopard5 leopard6 leopard7I’m going to be one of the few people (perhaps the only person) to tell you that I saw Lincoln, and…

Meh.

No offense to Honest Abe. He was a great guy. I just expected a lot more from this movie, especially with all the Oscar buzz. I thought it was going to be epic, but the only thing epic about it was the length. I thought it was the story of Lincoln’s life, but it’s really the story of how the 13th Amendment was passed. Don’t get me wrong – I’m in favor of the 13th Amendment. Slavery? Not the best idea. But about 90% of the movie was the process of passing this amendment in incredibly boring detail. School House Rock could have done it faster and in a more entertaining way.

I also would have expected Lincoln’s death to be the big, emotional climax of the movie. But they didn’t even show him getting shot! Someone announced his death, and then you get a glimpse of his dead body with people looking only moderately morose standing around him. It was weird.

To be fair, I’ll tell you what I did like about the movie. Visually, it was very interesting. If there were an Academy Award for Best Use of Silhouettes and Top Hats, Lincoln would win, hands down. And it does get better as it goes on. I could barely pay attention the first half (normally I never have that problem – I love movies!), but the second half was more plot-driven. And there were quite a few funny lines, which was an unexpected bonus.

If anyone else was unimpressed by Lincoln, please tell me so I know I’m not the only one!

Oh, and this is what I wore to see the movie.

    1. Really?! I LOVED Les Mis. But it was already one of my favorite musicals. However, I was less than impressed by Russell Crowe. Javert’s song is my favorite from that show, but it was not that great in the movie. Oh well. Other than that, I loved it.
As for the shirt, I linked to it below if you want to see if they have your size available! If not, check back later b/c J. Crew Factory often runs out of things and then restocks them.

  1. Oooh, I had that shirt on my Christmas list but didn’t get it. And now it seems to be sold out. I will be stalking the J. Crew Factory website to see if it comes back. It looks even better on than it does on the website!

I HATE going to the theater so I let everything come out on DVD, first. My parents went and saw Lincoln and enjoyed it but my mom said they had to change seats because the other patrons were so rude!

  2. You’re the first person I’ve heard from who didn’t like that movie, but from the way you describe it I would probably hate it! Long movies are the death of me if they are not completely and utterly entertaining. I’ll probably just rent Lincoln when it comes out on video. Thanks for the review!

Also, I really love that collar necklace, the detailing is so pretty. Super cute with the leopard top. And I love seeing snow!

  3. I saw it and I have to say I much more prefer Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Campy and full of thrills!
But I like your collar necklace. It’s a little lost in the leopard though.

  4. Vava Voom! Look at that hair! You put Bridget Bardot to shame girl. Lookin good. Glad the hubs and I didn’t see this movie yet. Maybe we will see it at the dollar theater per your review.
