Me and My Crew

I didn’t mean for this outfit to be so J. Crew heavy, but it happens sometimes and I’m not mad about it.

I wore this for another museum date, this time to the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. I’ve been living in Indianapolis for more than 3 years, and I still hadn’t been there until this weekend. I found out recently that students at my university get in for free, so I really had no excuse not to go.

Plus, you might have already guessed this because of my dark complexion and affinity for spear fishing, but I am 1/16 Native American. I love any excuse to learn more about “my people”! The exhibits were really interesting, although I was a tad disappointed that there weren’t many artifacts from the Cherokee (which is the tribe that my great-great-grandmother was a member of).

Still, the museum was really great and I’ll definitely go back. In the photo below, you’ll see a few snapshots of my favorite things at the Eiteljorg, including some interactive basket weaving. Clearly it comes naturally to me because of my heritage.

You could say these photos are dark and grainy, but I like to think they’re lit gently by the twinkling Christmas tree and covered in an aura of holiday cheer. I went to a Christmas party on Saturday and I’ve been dying to share my festive look. You might have noticed a few skipped days recently, and a lot of very casual outfits. Needless to say, this clotheshorse jumped on the chance to dress up.

You’ve seen this dress before in a more casual look, but I think it’s pulling off this whole fancy thing pretty well. Personally, I don’t think a dress has to be tight or showy to be a little bit sexy. The bold tights and great heels draw attention to my legs (which are like 2 feet long but I work with what I got), and with some great waves and a little sassy makeup…not gonna lie, I felt pretty fabulous. Shout out to my friend Lauren and her roommate for throwing a fun party!

Has anyone else been to a holiday party yet? If you blog, leave me a link in the comments – I’d love to see what you wore!
