I know I’ve gone on record warning everyone about the dangers of going straight for the clearance rack, but that’s exactly what led to my buying this dress. Look, if I wrote the rule, I can break it. Sometimes you just have to buy a pretty dress for no reason. This dress is actually even prettier than it looks here – the sleeves are sheer and fluttery and princessy – but I wanted to wear it to work so I added my most serious looking lawyer jacket. But then I still felt too dressy, which is why I added these kind of punk rock boots. The moral of this story is: if I hadn’t made an impulse purchase from the clearance rack, I never could have lived out my dreams of being a royal rock star attorney. And that would have been a shame.

I’ve had my eye on these bee-yoo-tiful Everlane loafers for months and I had grand plans to save up my money to buy them (not that they’re THAT expensive, but $170 is enough that I have to plan ahead for it). Unfortunately, I’m not the only fan of these loafers so they’re sold out with a very long waitlist. Who knows, maybe once they’re back in stock I’ll get them in another color, but in the meantime I decided to consider the possibility that there may be another pair of not too manly but just menswear-y enough loafers out there for me. There are plenty of shoes in the sea, as they say. Or something like that.

I did some sole searching (I crack myself up), and found these lovlies at DSW for almost $100 less than what I had planned to spend. Lest I hurt these cheaper loafers’ feelings, I did not settle. I don’t believe in sole mates (last one, I promise). I loved the Everlane loafers, but now I love these. We’re still in the honeymoon phase, so I actually wore them 2 days in a row last week. I’ll be sure to share look #2 with you soon, and don’t be shocked if they’re followed shortly by a look #3. Basically, they make every outfit look better. Ah, young shoe love.
