Well, all my NYC vacation recap posts are over. I guess that means back to reality, right? Sort of. How about back to the 1980s? Yeah, that sounds fun.

Last weekend, Kristin (you remember Kristin) performed in an 80s cabaret, and she not so subtly mentioned that audience participation was encouraged. I really did want to dress the part, but I had just done some killer shopping in NYC, so I wanted to show off my new purchases.

I went for the best of both worlds: instead of going in “costume,” I wore some of my new duds with a retro spin. Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to break in a faux leather mini skirt than at an 80s party, can you? I paired it with my rather strong-shouldered top from Kate Spade Saturday (next best thing to shoulder pads), wayfarer-esque shades, some punk touches, and plenty of neon pink.

I probably wouldn’t have put together this look if it weren’t for the occasion, but I really like how it turned out! It definitely said 80s, but I also didn’t feel totally out of place in 2013.

And now for some totally tubular 80s fun starring Sarah, Kristin, Amy, and Christie…

It’s Monday, and you know what that means? It’s my first day back at school! Oy. Definitely a good time to rewind to last Monday, which was day 2 of the NYC vacation.

We spent a good chunk of the day romping (get it?) around Central Park. We had been before, but it’s so huge there were plenty of spots we hadn’t checked out, including the Shakespeare Garden, seen in the last 3 photos.

We also took a kick-ass carousel ride, and I say that without a hint of sarcasm. I’ve ridden quite a few merry-go-rounds in my day, and they’re not all the same. This one went faster than most so you actually felt the wind in your hair. Plus the music was awesome – I mean, they played Johnny Cash. How many other carousels can say that? And it was only $3 so it’s cheaper than a cup of coffee at most places in the city.

Central Park definitely got the Sarah’s Awesome Stamp of Satisfaction (SASS) last week. Note to self: get an actual SASS stamp made and carry it with you at all times.
