First of all, the name of this post is the title of a song from a musical. If you know what musical, you get a million cool points. Moving on…

On Friday we had a couple friends over for dinner. Apparently we’re grownups now. Or maybe we just spent all our money on vacation so we can’t afford to go out. It’s a little of both probably.

So what do you wear when it’s Friday night but you’re not actually leaving the house? You don’t want to answer the door to guests in your sweatpants, but it seems silly to do your hair and put on eyeliner and pumps just to hang out in your own apartment. So this is what I came up with: a plain t-shirt, a flowy skirt (it’s reversible, by the way!), one fun and bright accessory, and no shoes.

So be honest – did I overthink it? I tend to do that. If anyone else is a regular at-home entertainer, feel free to weigh in!

Turns out picking your first-day-of-school outfit is just as exciting in 19th grade as it was in 4th grade. And here it is – my very last first-day-of-school outfit ever! It’s a pretty damn good one if I do say so myself. Just like my earlier days, I wore some new things (this adorable chambray from Kate Spade Saturday and nude ballet flats from H&M), and tried to incorporate some trends without looking like I was trying too hard.

And speaking of trends, I hope you already yelled at me through your computer for wearing denim on denim when I swore I’d never do it! What can I say? If there’s one thing I’ve learned in law school, it’s that every rule has an exception (and sometimes the exceptions have exceptions and involve a four-factor balancing test).

I guess I found an exception to my double denim rule: The rule does not apply when one or both denims are sufficiently girly such that the wearer does not appear to the reasonable person to be preparing to paint a house or other structure, including but not limited to office buildings, sheds, and garages.

I wish “Fashion Police” were a real thing, because then you would need fashion attorneys and judges, and I would be SO GOOD AT IT.
