Turns out picking your first-day-of-school outfit is just as exciting in 19th grade as it was in 4th grade. And here it is – my very last first-day-of-school outfit ever! It’s a pretty damn good one if I do say so myself. Just like my earlier days, I wore some new things (this adorable chambray from Kate Spade Saturday and nude ballet flats from H&M), and tried to incorporate some trends without looking like I was trying too hard.

And speaking of trends, I hope you already yelled at me through your computer for wearing denim on denim when I swore I’d never do it! What can I say? If there’s one thing I’ve learned in law school, it’s that every rule has an exception (and sometimes the exceptions have exceptions and involve a four-factor balancing test).

I guess I found an exception to my double denim rule: The rule does not apply when one or both denims are sufficiently girly such that the wearer does not appear to the reasonable person to be preparing to paint a house or other structure, including but not limited to office buildings, sheds, and garages.

I wish “Fashion Police” were a real thing, because then you would need fashion attorneys and judges, and I would be SO GOOD AT IT.

Guess Who Wore Snakeskin? (It’s Not Me.)

This story starts out boring and gets really interesting, so stay with me…

I wore this outfit for a day of studying in various spots around town. Can I just say that this maxi skirt is the comfiest thing ever? And can I also say that I don’t know why I waited this long to get a jean jacket? There, I’ve said those things.

Anyway, that evening I was back home and it was a beautiful day. My apartment complex sits near a river, and there’s a walking path through the woods so you can get to this little gazebo overlooking the water. The water is brown, but still…it’s nice. So we walked over there to enjoy the scenery and take photos of my outfit.

As I was striking one of my many fabulous poses where I stare off into the distance, I started to notice something…

Wanna guess what it was?

If you guessed a six-foot snake sleeping in a tree, you were right!

Here’s where you learn something about me you might not expect. I FREAKING LOVE SNAKES. I think they’re so cool. Since we didn’t know what kind of snake this was, we obviously kept a safe distance (found out later it was probably a rat snake, which is non-venemous). But the zoom lens on the camera definitely came in handy to see this guy up close! I think he looks pretty cute, but that’s just me.
