I’ve been doing this blogging thing for a hot minute now. I mean I’m getting close to my 500th post. Crazy, right? Looking back at some of my early posts, I notice some changes in how I dress, and it’s mainly for the better. I pay more attention to how my clothes fit me and what proportions are more flattering – it’s hard not to when you have to look at pictures of yourself all the time. I also have gotten more adventurous and have tried things I thought weren’t my style. See? Good things.

But I’ve also noticed there’s something about style blogging – even for someone like me who takes a real life, practical approach – that makes you go overboard sometimes. I MUST WEAR ALL OF THE TRENDS. STATEMENT NECKLACES FOR EVERY OUTFIT. TWO PRINTS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.

Whoa. Slow your roll. It doesn’t have to be that complicated. I’m mainly talking to myself here, but feel free to take this under advisement yourself. Jeans and a button-up can still feel chic with a couple (just a couple) fun accessories. Oh, and bright lipstick – that’s one thing I’ve picked up since I started blogging that I am not letting go! It makes me feel fabulous and I don’t care what you say.

Those of you who are SRL fans on Facebook probably saw my status update on Thursday about changing into a pencil skirt and heels in the back seat of my car. Those of you who are not fans on Facebook are now probably happy with your decision to abstain.

Either way, I took these photos just after crawling out of the back seat. I probably should explain…I had to give a presentation in my evening class and I figured it never hurts to dress the part. So I wore jeans and flats (plus a leather jacket in the morning because it was chilly) to my classes during the day, then switched it up in the afternoon.

Scroll down to see how I’ve put on this necklace, top, and skirt before in the privacy of my own home.
