I’ve been backlogged on outfit photos for a couple weeks now, and for the most part I’ve been posting them in order of when I wore them. But today I’m going to skip a work outfit and show you a look from last weekend instead. Something tells me your Wednesday needs some leather leggings and bright colors in it. Am I right? Of course I am.

Mustard yellow is one of my favorite colors and I haven’t been wearing it as often as I used to. I’ve had this jacket for a few years, and I got it because (1) it’s mustard yellow, and (2) it reminds me of something Michael Jackson would wear. And clearly MJ should be the driving force behind all important life choices. For example, I decided to be born in August because Michael was too. I might not have been born in Indiana like he was, but I made my way here eventually. #twinsies

Speaking of birthdays, Michael and I lost the birthstone lottery. Peridot? Yuck. But personally (and I think I speak for Mr. Jackson as well), I don’t care what my birthstone is supposed to be. I’ll wear whatever gemstone I like. It just so happens that this month’s birthstone (one of them, anyway) is citrine, a lovely orange stone that screams fall.

So when Anjolee offered to make me a gemstone eternity band, I went with citrine! I’ve already worn it 3 times. It’s so light and comfortable and adds a little sparkle without being too glitzy and fancy. Of course, if glitzy and fancy is what you’re after, Anjolee can make you a diamond eternity band, too. A single sequin glove would do the trick as well.

A few years ago, I was all about earrings and rings. These days I’m more of a necklace and bracelet girl (although I did get a couple really freaking nice rings in 2008 and 2011). But I picked up these ginormous earrings on a whim recently, and I got these fun rings as a gift. So for this first day of the Black Out challenge, I decided to start with some really basic non-black neutrals, and then let my bold new accessories do the talking. I even made the strategic decision to go with a neutral lip and minimal eye makeup because seriously…these earrings are huge.
