Let us all take a moment to give mad props to Kristin for picking out this dress all on her own and getting it for me for Christmas. I’m sure you never would have guessed, but I’m somewhat particular and can be hard to shop for. But a comfy cotton polka dot shift dress with pockets? This was clearly made special just for me. So naturally, someone special got it for me! And speaking of the special women in my life, I wore this outfit to go out for a belated birthday dinner with my mom. She deserved every bite of that melt-in-your-mouth short rib!

I have so many colorful and/or printed tops, and sometimes I have trouble finding a basic bottom half in my closet to balance it out. So when I found this black (but not boring) skirt on sale at Madewell, I figured it was a good opportunity to fill out my collection of wardrobe basics. (One of my greatest skills is rationalizing unnecessary clothing purchases.)

Then I was excited about my new purchase and wanted to wear it right away. And it took me half an hour to find something to wear with it. You saw that one coming a mile away, didn’t you? Yeah. Maybe the versatility only goes one way. On the bright side, I reminded myself that black + white + accent color is always a good fallback.
