Grocery Store Beauty: Greasy Greta Edition

This post is sponsored by Meijer. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review, along with other compensation. All opinions are mine whether you like them or not!

It’s that time again! Time for Meijer to send me a bunch of beauty and personal care products so I can try them all and tell you what’s worth knowing about. It just so happened that a lot of what Meijer sent me is for those of us who are prone to producing excess oil. So my fellow Greasy Gretas and Oily Olgas, this is for you!

First up: the L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay collection. I can honestly say I noticed a difference using this whole system. Whether there’s only one element making the difference, I don’t know! All I know is I went out in public (to the symphony, no less) with 3rd-day hair. 3RD-DAY HAIR, PEOPLE. This is epic for me.

The system includes a mask that you put on your roots before washing. I only used it along my hairline because otherwise it would take forever. You’re supposed to leave it on for 5 minutes, so I just use that time to let the water heat up and do other shower stuff. You know how showers work – I don’t really need to explain this.

Then I use the clay shampoo and conditioner. In case you’re worried they look and feel like actual clay, I assure you they are just like any other ‘poo and condish.

I use the dry shampoo on my 2nd-day (and yes, even 3rd-day) hair so it looks like I’m wearing a ponytail because I want to, not because I have to.

Shake, spray, rub in, brush lightly. Voila.

Now let’s talk about my face. And your face. Faces in general. I became a fan of no-rinse cleansing wipes a couple years ago when I had a really bad neck spasm and couldn’t lean over a sink. (True story.) I’m more mobile now, but I still love my wipes! Meijer set me the Yes To Tomatoes detoxifying charcoal facial wipes. While I object to the universal overuse of the term “detoxifying,” I do think it’s cool that something black makes my face cleaner. They are also really soft and smell nice!

Next I tried out the L’Oreal Pure-Clay mask. I don’t know if masks do anything, to be honest. I just think they’re fun. They’re great for sleepovers, post-truth or dare and pre-pillow fight. (Just kidding. Sort of.)

Now that I’m all clean, let’s talk makeup for a sec. This L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow foundation is a thinner consistency than what I’ve been using, but I now realize that’s probably a good thing for people with oily pores. I think it’s supposed to give you a “dewy” look, but I tend to achieve that on my own, so I top it off with my usual powder. I still get shiny by mid-day, but it takes a little bit longer.

Last up, Dove advanced care invisible deodorant. It purports to leave no white marks…like, pretty much ever. I’ve only been able to truly put it to the test once, when I wore a short sleeve black dress last week. So far, so good! I have to call B.S. on the “48-hour protection” claim though. I most certainly needed to reapply in less than 24.

Many thanks to Meijer for hooking me up! All the products featured above are available (at lovely prices) at Meijer, but if you’re not in the Midwest, you should be able to find them at other retailers! Happy absorbing!

How often do people tell you that you look like a celebrity? I wouldn’t say it happens to me that often, but recently more and more people tell me I look like Sarah Paulson. My theory is that she only comes to mind because we have the same name. And we’re blonde white women with big foreheads. I don’t think there’s much resemblance, but she’s quite pretty so I can’t be mad at the comparison! I’ve also gotten January Jones once or twice, and I’m definitely not mad about that one either.

But the “you remind me of…” that I get more than any other is… Angela from “The Office.” Not the actress Angela Kinsey in general, but specifically her character in “The Office.” It annoys me every time, but my annoyed face only serves to intensify my Angela-ness. I can’t deny the resemblance there, but I do like to think I dress better at least.

There’s a new character on “The Mindy Project” this season named Anna who’s an Angela-esque blond with RBF and apparently no interest in making friends. But Anna is much younger and fancier and more successful than Angela, so I’m hoping she can be my new doppelganger.

Alas, I am none of these lovely ladies. I’m just me. Not that I’m complaining, but I wouldn’t mind a movie star paycheck just once. I would have a much bigger collection of Rebecca Minkoff bags, that’s for sure! Then again, a Shopbop* sale also helps with growing designer collections, and it just so happens there’s one going on right now through March 4. All the details are here.

Check out some of my favorite RM goodies included in the sale below, or check out the full sale at shopbop.com!
