Heads up: This post was sponsored by Gevalia Kaffe through Influence Central. I received compensation along with product samples to facilitate my review.
I really love the fact that I can work from home. There have only been one or two times that I’ve actually worked a full day from home, but some mornings I’ll bust out my laptop on the dining room table and get started on a few tasks or go through emails for 30 minutes or so. On those mornings, I get to actually enjoy my coffee and breakfast in the comfort of my own home instead of drinking my coffee on the road and microwaving some oatmeal once I get into the office.
When I have coffee with food, I like to mix sweet and savory. So if I’m having regular coffee, I like to pair it with something sweet, and if I have a flavored latte or something, I eat something more savory. This past week I tried out two different Gevalia Kaffe K-cup varieties so I thought I’d share my favorite at-home breakfast pairings! Don’t worry, I’m no cook and I don’t haveĀ that much spare time in the morning, so these breakfasts are still pretty idiot-proof.
For the record, these are things I really eat, not just recipes made up for the sake of this post (I always wonder about that when I see other bloggers’ sponsored posts). ON TO THE FOODS!
No. 1: Dark Roast Coffee + PB & Banana Waffle
See, I told you these were easy. Toast a waffle, spread on some peanut butter, slice some fresh banana, and voila. It’s sweet but not as sugary (or messy) as waffles with syrup. Recently I’ve been enjoying one of those flavored whipped peanut butters. It’s amazing.
If you like your coffee strong, I have a feeling you’ll be a fan of the Gevalia Kaffe Majestic Roast. I’m not a coffee connoisseur or anything, but I can tell the difference between bad coffee (at most fast food joints and hotel rooms) and good coffee (doesn’t just taste like hot brown water). This is the latter. Real coffee. Gevalia’s not messing around.
I only use half a banana, so I wrap the other half in saran wrap and take it with me to eat mid-morning. Breakfast is great, but snacks are the most important meal of the day.
Whoops, sorry. Got hungry.
No. 2: Pumpkin Spice Latte + Avocado Toast
OK, so this one’s a little more complicated, but just barely. Save it for the weekend if you’re that worried about it. I only recently discovered the magic of avocado toast. Before that, I was only aware of the separate magics of avocados and toast.
On the other hand, I was pretty well-versed on the PSL. Like a lot of people, I find the “original” pumpkin spice latte too sweet, so I usually have the barista add just one pump of syrup. The only downside is that they usually still charge me four freaking dollars. The Gevalia Kaffe pumpkin spice latte is cheaper, and I don’t have to do anything special to make it taste the way I like.
This one’s a two-stepper, but it’s still totally easy. Just dump the froth packet in your mug before you brew the espresso K-cup. Then it ends up all frothy, like so:
I will say that it doesn’t have that same richness that a real latte has, but it’s light and not too sweet and still has that nice, fall-ish flavor. All nutmeggy and stuff.
And now for that savory toast to have with my at-home PSL! If you’re a total avocado toast novice, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Toast bread, mash up some avocado, put them together, season to taste.
Here’s a tip: If you take the half that still has the pit in it and put it in a plastic baggie in the crisper drawer of your fridge, it will probably still be usable the next day.
Just mash it right there in the skin. Because doing dishes is for suckers.
All I add is salt and pepper. If you’re really fancy (and/or hungry), you can add an egg, maybe a slice of tomato, cheese, whatever. Actually, that sounds really good. Now I have a plan for that other avocado half…
I also sprinkled a little cinnamon on my latte because the aroma makes it taste even better! I would advise against cinnamon on the toast, though. Just one woman’s opinion.
Are you already excited for tomorrow morning? Well, as excited as one can be for a morning? I thought so. You can thank me later by buying me brunch. Because I still get tired of making my own coffee sometimes.
