Quick! Help Me Pick a Party Dress!

What Should I Wear to My Xmas Party??

You guys, this is a really important post. Everything else I put on this blog is utterly pointless in comparison. This time I need your help. My firm’s big holiday party is in 3 weeks, and I need to pick a dress! It’s black tie, and the theme is Casino Royale. Last year I rented a dress from Rent the Runway, and I plan on doing the same this time. There are so many great options, but this time of year, the good ones go fast, so I need you to help me pick! I narrowed it down to these four, all of which I love for different reasons, and all of which have some risks. That’s why it’s so hard to choose!

First, there’s the Catya dress by ML Monique Lhuillier. I love the color, and you know I’m all about midi-length skirts these days. The downside is it could be a little overwhelming on my frame.

Second, there’s the Award Winner gown by Badgley Mischka. ALL OF THE SPARKLES. The risk is that it could be too long on me unless I wear really high heels.

Third, there’s the Golden Blossom gown by Theia. I have a feeling this would be super flattering on me, but black dresses are very common at lawyer events, and I don’t want to blend in with everyone else.

Fourth, there’s the Alexis dress by Theia. I like that it’s subtly sexy, but if it doesn’t fit well in the waist, the cutouts will probably make that more obvious.

Oh, and in case you’re totally unfamiliar with Rent the Runway, it’s exactly what it sounds like. You can borrow fabulous designer dresses for special occasions (or no occasion, I suppose) for much less than the retail purchase price. You can rent for a 4- or 8-day window, and you get a “backup” size for free, which takes some of the risk out of the process. They also have jewelry and accessories. If you have any fancy holiday parties coming up, I recommend trying out RTR! If you’re a newbie, you can get 20% off your first order.

So…it’s decision time. What say you?

Please note that this post contains Rent the Runway affiliate links, so I will make a commission if you make a purchase from these links. However, I planned on renting a dress from RTR before I was approved for their affiliate program šŸ™‚ If you’re a fellow blogger, you should join the Rent the Runway program too!

Almost a Year in Review

In case you haven’t counted recently, there are only 45 days left in 2015. I feel pretty good about 2015. Not as many huge milestones as 2014 (you can only graduate from law school once), but it was a good year.

Let’s recap the most notable events from each month, shall we?

year1

January: I threw an awesome Harry Potter themed birthday party for my #1 girl // February: I dressed like my inner Audrey for Adult Swim at the Children’s Museum

year2

March: We celebrated 10 years of dating (because we didn’t stop dating when we got married) // April: I faced my public speaking fears and hosted a fashion show at Macy’s

year3

May: I spent Mother’s Day with my mom (which doesn’t happen too often when you live 600 miles apart) // June: Umm….WE BOUGHT A FREAKING HOUSE

years4

July: We moved out of our apartment of 6 years and started making the house feel like home // August: I celebrated a big birthday but avoided saying the number “30” out loud

year5

September: I spent a relaxing week at the beach with my family // October: I saw Kristin conduct a musical for the first time (and she killed it, like she kills everything)

Most photos via my Instagram, where I overshare like nobody’s business.

On tap for November and December: Spending our first holiday season in the new house and entertaining both sets of parents!

When I was growing up, I wrote everything in my day planner. Remember picking out a new planner at the beginning of each school year? Then you would doodle all over it and tuck your friends’ school photos and stuff in there? Simple times, the 90s. These days, if I want to reminisce, I can look at Instagram, Facebook, this blog, and iCalendar to remember what things I did, what places I went, and with whom I did those things and went those places.

But sometimes I still like to use a good old-fashioned planner. Thanks to AT-A-GLANCE, I’m already set for 2016 with two cute new planners from their fashion line. And you know how much I love fashion ;). I don’t use them quite the way I used to, but starting in a few weeks, these planners will start to hold my weekend plans, my blog post schedule, shopping lists, and outfit ideas. The AT-A-GLANCE planners let me look at a whole month on one page, and then make more detailed notes for each day on the weekly pages. I used an AT-A-GLANCE planner for all of 2015 and it was exactly what I needed.

What exciting things will I be adding to my 2016 calendar? My 5-year wedding anniversary and hopefully a fun vacation to go with it! If anyone wants to give me a free trip to the Mediterranean, that would be great.

Speaking of free things, I have to take a second to tell you about the AT-A-GLANCEĀ® Pinterest Sweepstakes – one U.S. resident and Pinterest user will win 200 bucks and a 2016 planner from AT-A-GLANCE! You’ll need to follow AT-A-GLANCEĀ® on Pinterest, repin the Sweepstakes announcement on a new board along with at least one pin with the tagsĀ #myAAG and #Sweepstakes, and fill out the official entry form here.
