I’m far from a poetry buff, but I have loved Dorothy Parker since high school. I guess I’m just a sucker for intelligent, sarcastic women; they’re everything I strive to be. I’m also a sucker for Kate Spade, so when Kate first came out with a line of stuff featuring DP quotes, it was like winning the lottery. Except when you win the lottery, you get a bunch of free money, and Kate Spade is definitely not free. I couldn’t convince myself to spend my own money, but imagine my giddiness when many months later, my favorite wife surprised me with this bag for Christmas! She also got me a copy of The Portable Dorothy Parker (that I can carry around in my new bag! hooray!), which I highly recommend if you want to check out my girl DP. It’s all poems and short stories, so you can read a little or a lot at one time. Plus the cover is really cute.

When I saw this outfit that Kimberly came up with, it felt so very “me” (well I guess it’s really more “Kimberly” but the point is I liked it), so I plopped a photo over on good ol’ Pinterest. A few days later, I didn’t really have an idea of what to wear, so pin to the rescue!

You can read my tips on using Pinterest for outfit inspiration here, but I’ll clue you in on a big one: pin looks that contain pieces similar to what’s already in your closet. Obviously for this outfit I did a totally different color scheme, but I had all the basic stuff: striped tee, leather vest, coat, plaid scarf, beanie, jeans, and boots. And a dusting of snow around my feet – do I get bonus points for that? It was the mix of patterns and layers I liked, so I wasn’t too worried about replicating the colors. Plus these were just the only color options I had…so there’s that.
