I’ve been doing this blogging thing for a hot minute now. I mean I’m getting close to my 500th post. Crazy, right? Looking back at some of my early posts, I notice some changes in how I dress, and it’s mainly for the better. I pay more attention to how my clothes fit me and what proportions are more flattering – it’s hard not to when you have to look at pictures of yourself all the time. I also have gotten more adventurous and have tried things I thought weren’t my style. See? Good things.

But I’ve also noticed there’s something about style blogging – even for someone like me who takes a real life, practical approach – that makes you go overboard sometimes. I MUST WEAR ALL OF THE TRENDS. STATEMENT NECKLACES FOR EVERY OUTFIT. TWO PRINTS ARE BETTER THAN ONE.

Whoa. Slow your roll. It doesn’t have to be that complicated. I’m mainly talking to myself here, but feel free to take this under advisement yourself. Jeans and a button-up can still feel chic with a couple (just a couple) fun accessories. Oh, and bright lipstick – that’s one thing I’ve picked up since I started blogging that I am not letting go! It makes me feel fabulous and I don’t care what you say.

6 Ways to Wear a Denim Jacket

Not long ago, I was a denim jacket skeptic. Why would you want to wear jeans on your top half? Answer: because it’s awesome. Fast forward a few months and a dozen or so outfits, and the little jean jacket that could has earned its place in the latest installment of “How to Wear”!

So, are you convinced yet? If you were looking for a new way to wear your jean jacket, looks like you’ve got your work cut out for you. And if you don’t even have a denim jacket yet, fall is the perfect time to shop. A little tip from me to you: There are plenty of trendy and embellished versions out there (multi-colored, studded, ombre, leather sleeves, you name it), but if you want versatility, just go with the classic.

The shade of blue doesn’t really matter, but make sure the bottom hem hits you between your waist and hip bones. Any shorter and you’re in tween territory, and any longer is likely to look frumpy. Most importantly, look for a great fit in the shoulders with a little stretch so you can move comfortably. Below are just a couple options to get you started! (Shop them here: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4
