When I was getting dressed last weekend, I had the sudden urge to be one of those uber-chic women wearing an all-black outfit and red lipstick. So I put on black jeans, a black tee, and a black blazer and looked at myself in the mirror for about .08 seconds before thinking “NOPE. NOT ME.” I replaced the black tee with a ridiculous striped tee with embroidered lips all over it, and I felt much better.

I’m just not that girl. I’m this girl. When I first started blogging, I spent a lot of time trying to recreate other people’s style. Six years later, I have a much better handle on my own style (which I define as “girly badass”), and my bubble necklace went to Goodwill a looong time ago.

So if you think wearing a shirt covered in embroidered lips is idiotic, then for the love of Blog don’t do it. I love the idea that once in a while I’m inspiring your outfit, but if I’m convincing you to just copy whatever I do without thinking, then I’m doing it wrong, and so are you. You do you, girl.
