Let me start by saying that this is NOT a Valentine’s Day post. I haven’t sold out that bad yet. But if you want to take any of the ideas contained in this non-Valentine’s Day post and use them to celebrate Valentine’s Day, don’t let me stop you.
Back on the way more legit holiday of Christmas, I got Kristin a “date in a bag” (along with a bunch of other things). I bought tickets to the Indiana State Museum, a gift card to a downtown restaurant, earrings and lipstick for her to wear on our date, and a bottle of wine to have once we got home. Then I printed out cute little tags explaining all the items and layered each thing between tissue paper in a bag. Voila – date in a bag! I’m sure I’m not the first person to think of this idea, but I did come up with it on my own and I was pretty proud of myself.
The best part about this gift was that she got to enjoy the thoughtfulness when she opened it on Christmas, and then we both got to enjoy an already paid-for Sunday Funday several weeks later! We had a great time at the museum (where these photos were taken). There was a special exhibit all about prohibition that was seriously SO. COOL. It’s only open through the 15th, so if you live in central Indiana and you feel like doing something as cheesy as going on a date this Saturday, at least make it nerdy date.
If you DON’T want to bother trying to get a dinner reservation on the 14th, a date in a bag would make a great V-Day gift. Just enjoy the actual date on a less cliché day, perhaps. I know you’re probably jealous you can’t be married to someone as creative and thoughtful as me, but at least I share my secrets with you sometimes. Happy Valentine’s Day.

That is such a cute gift!! My husband made me a ‘Writers box’ for Christmas. It contained everything a writer might need. A giant coffee cup, great pens, a beautiful notebook, jelly beans (ofcourse), and a great book.
I think I might steal your date in a bag idea for his coming birthday. We are not big into V-day.
I love the polka dots

Sara…Actually that “date in a bag” idea seems brilliant…Maybe you should market it to museums/restaurants in the area (in your spare time, of course). Jodie

That’s a great gift idea! I’ve seen several other blogs link that shirt, but you’re the first I’ve seen to style it – love the polka dots!

I LOVE this outfit! Reading your blog makes me want to go shopping haha.
And what an awesome idea for date in a bag. Am totally going to copy that.
An open cable-knit ivory cardigan is on my running wish list, thank you for sharing some great options! Yours looks amazing — so cozy and chic, exactly what I’m going for.
Love this idea for a present – I too enjoy gifting “memories” over stuff. And the polka dots are the best!
