It happened. Today’s the day. My twenty-tenth birthday. That’s what comes after twenty-nine, right? Twenty-ten? Ugh, OK, fine. I’m thirty. It’s not that I think thirty is old, it’s just that it sounds weird to say. Do any other former-20-somethings know what I mean? The last time you changed the first number in your age, it was exciting because you weren’t a teenager anymore. Who worries about getting old when they turn 20? No one. You just want to hurry up and turn 21. Fast forward 9 years and you’ve probably graduated from something, maybe gotten married, acquired a couple kids and/or pets, and there’s not really another age to get excited about until you qualify for Medicare. But at least your age always started with a “2.” Suddenly it turns into a “3” and you wonder where the last decade went.

Well, now that I think about it, a lot of decent stuff has happened in the past 10 years. The last decade gained me a bachelor’s degree, a car, a cat, a wife, a blog, a law degree, a good job, and (most recently) a house. Not too shabby, right? And I’m only 30 🙂

P.S. If you want to give me a birthday gift (and of course you d0), I’d love a pin or a tweet linking to this post! The gift of new blog readers is the greatest gift of all.

  1. Happy birthday! I’m also turning 30, in about 12 days, and I’m feeling a little… strange about it. I’m not upset to turn 30, and I’m really happy with my life path, but still… 30.

    Enjoy your day! 🙂

  2. Happy Birthday! For me, turning 30 was actually kind of great (I’m 31). After looking back at everything I had experienced from 20-30 and realizing that I had a whole new decade to pack with new experiences before having to think about hitting another milestone (and 40 is still young too!) I was simply filled with excitement for the future. For me, turning 26 was much harder than turning 30 haha. Enjoy the day!

  3. Why did I think you were several years younger than me? Anyway, yeah, I feel you on turning 30. Now I’m getting dangerously close to 31 and it is weird. Being in my 30s sounds super grown up, and I don’t know when I will feel like a grownup! I mean, I’ve got the husband, house, and baby. I’m a grownup, I think. But still feel 22! Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  4. Happy happy birthday! Welcome to the club of 30 year old’s blogging with the early 20-somethings. 🙂 I turned 30 at the end of July and totally still feel like a child, not an adult.

  5. Happy birthday, and welcome to 30! It’s not too bad, but I don’t think I’ll ever feel like a grown up. Here’s to the next decade and all of the awesomeness it will bring!

  6. Happy birthday! Yeah, I get it — 30 takes some getting used to, but your 30s really are the best. TRUST.

I used to think that was a thing people said to make themselves feel better about aging, but nope: it all just keeps getting better 🙂
