I celebrated a birthday earlier this month, and I’m officially halfway to 70. I see my future Golden Girl self on the horizon, and I’m not mad about it. (I’m a Sophia, but less racist.)

My 30s have been great so far. Since entering this decade of my life, I’ve gained about 10 pounds…of wisdom. And speaking of pounds and wisdom, this year I wisely requested a quarantined birthday featuring pizza and cookie cake at home with my wife (a combo Blanche/Dorothy), and it was everything I could have wanted.

In the spirit of looking for silver linings in this poop-filled dumpster that is 2020, I’m kind of loving the way quarantine and remote working has changed my out-of-the-house style.

Around mid-June, we started venturing out to restaurants and to hang out with small groups of friends (very carefully, outside only). For me, of course, 75% of the excitement about leaving the house was the excuse to “dress up,” but I’m finding that my new version of “dressing up” leans more toward comfort than it used to. I mean, wide-leg elastic waist pants to go out to dinner?! Who even am I?! (Someone who doesn’t want high-waist jeans digging into her belly full of pizza and wine, that’s who.)
