Phew, I wore (and blogged) this sweatshirt just in time! I know winter doesn’t technically begin for a few weeks, but once December hits, it’s hard to think of any season other than the Christmas season. Pass the eggnog.

I’m a big fan of “special” sweatshirts (you know, with some snazzy embellishments or French crap on them). Sometimes I make them extra special with fancy earrings. In case you’re thinking this is a look you can’t pull off, well…I guess you could be right. I mean, I don’t know most of you. BUT I still think you should try it. The secret ingredients are sass and confidence. And maybe eggnog.

The Thrill of the Chase

We started off October with one of the most Octobery things ever – apple picking! Sure, you can get the same apples from the grocery store for the same price (or less), but where’s the fun in that? We like to think of apple picking as “fruit hunting.” We’re in it for the thrill of the chase.

And we chased down a big ol’ bag of apples. They didn’t see it coming (because they’re apples).

Here’s what we’ve done with them so far: We sliced and sauteed a few in ghee and cinnamon, and used those to top yogurt and pancakes. We turned a bunch of them into apple sauce, and I used some of that apple sauce in a batch of pumpkin oat muffins. Then last night for dinner we made a really yummy dish of baked apples and butternut squash (recipe here).

Yeah, you could say it’s been very busy and very apply in my kitchen this month. But as an apple hunter, I feel it’s important to honor the life of every apple I kill by not letting it go to waste.
