I don’t always wear head-to-toe black and pale pink and carry a Kate Spade bag, but when I do…I just own it. I’m a sophisticated lady, dammit. Now make me a gimlet and bring the car around. (How great would it be if I dressed up really fancy and hired a chauffeur for the day to drive me around in my 10-year-old Nissan? I would also wear giant sunglasses and hold a candy cigarette.)

I know you all visit this blog because you want to learn to be a classy broad like me, so consider this your master class for the day. Bows. Chauffeurs. Candy cigarettes.

An American in Paris

In another reality, I was born a few decades earlier, I married Gene Kelly, and An American in Paris was our real life, not just a movie. Not that I’m complaining about my actual real life. S’wonderful, but it’s a distant second to the waltzing along the Seine version. (Just kidding. Sort of.)

Luckily, my real and alternate lives collided earlier this month when I got to see An American in Paris on a big screen, accompanied by live orchestra. I don’t know how many dozens of times I’ve seen that movie, but this was definitely the best experience yet!

Naturally, I wanted to dress the part, so I wore an outfit from my alternate 50s Parisian closet, which, coincidentally, is quite similar to my regular contemporary American closet.

A million thanks to my real life spouse who paid to take me on this lovely date to drool over my first love! 🙂
