Whenever I have something fun to do after work on a Friday evening, I try to come up with an all-purpose outfit that’s equal parts “I’m a super important lawyer” and “I’m a super cool urban 20-something.” I’m pretty sure calling myself “a super cool urban 20-something” demonstrates just how not super cool I am, but I want my outfit to convey it nonetheless.

Last Friday I went to my friend’s art show so my challenge was to mix professional with artsy. Button-up collared shirt: professional. Faux leather jacket: artsy. Black, white, and olive color scheme: professional. Drapey genie pants: artsy. How do I look? Super cool, right? I thought so.

I had to make a hard decision recently. I had to break up with winter. Actually, I suppose it was a pretty easy decision. Some relationships are just not meant to last, and for me and winter, time had run out. Back in November, we were all flirty and cuddly. Then we spent the holidays together (things got serious pretty fast). But by late January, the honeymoon phase was over. All those things I used to find so cute about winter started getting annoying. The cold wasn’t brisk anymore. The snow started looking dingy. I thought maybe we could rekindle the romance over Valentine’s Day, but it didn’t happen.

All I wanted was a bouquet of a dozen roses. Roses that were grown on a rose bush. A rose bush that was able to grow and bloom because it’s actually spring. In hindsight, I can see how this request might have offended winter, which is probably why it backfired. Now winter has totally frozen me out. (Get it?)

I’m not in to drama queens, so I had to call it quits. For real this time. The problem is, winter’s pretty clingy, so it’s probably going to keep begging me to take it back for a few more weeks. Ugh. RELATIONSHIPS. Right?
