Dinner Date Fail

OK, here’s what happened:

I wore this top and skirt to work, then came home and switched out my shoes and bag so I looked a little spiffier to go out to dinner. Typically we don’t do fancy dinners on week nights, but we had some accomplishments to celebrate (more about that soon), so we decided to go to the Melting Pot. We showed up at 6:30 (without a reservation because it was Tuesday), and they said they didn’t have a table until EIGHT FREAKING THIRTY. The best part? The restaurant was SILENT. There was no one there. So apparently the Melting Pot has one single waiter.

Obviously, I was a bit perturbed. I mean when you have it in your head that you’re about to eat a delicious bowl of melted cheese, it’s hard to wrap your brain around eating something else. We ended up going for Italian at Puccini’s. Don’t get me wrong – their food is delicious. But the servers wear khaki shorts and lime green t-shirts, so I was just a smidgeon overdressed. Oh well. As Kristin pointed out: “Babe, you’re overdressed for life.”

Sometimes I’m Trendy

So I think there’s some unwritten rule among the well-dressed crowd that it’s cool to incorporate trends, but when you wear two or three trends at once, you end up looking too trendy and thus unoriginal. I’m usually not one for fashion rules, but this is one I do agree with. Looking like everyone else is lame.

BUT! I also think there comes a point when you can wear so many trends at once that you go back to being unique. Let’s count the trends in this outfit, shall we? (1) Retro shades, (2) orange lips, (3) black and white, (4) colorblock, (5) floral, (6) spike jewelry, (7) mixed prints, (8) low heels. Did I miss any? I didn’t intend to wear all these trends at once; it just kind of happened. And I’m pretty confident I don’t look like everyone else. So there.

By the way, this sweater feels like a towel. I don’t think towel sweaters are a trend yet but they totally should be.
