This pastel-tastic look was actually the first outfit I put together for Looking Lucky, but thanks to a busy day (work, dinner, theater) followed by a lot of rain, it took awhile to get out and take photos of it. Worth the wait I think…I love this outfit!

I’m really digging these shoes. It’s funny though…in February I bought “nude” pumps but I think these pumps are actually closer to my actual skin tone. Next time I fill out a form that asks for my race, I’ll check “other” and write in “dusty rose.”

So. You might have noticed one of the 10 trends for the Looking Lucky challenge is “cropped.” Originally it was cropped tops specifically, but then we just went with cropped because it gives you a little more room for interpretation. Because I’m an overachiever, I decided to rock a cropped top AND pants at the same time on Saturday.

For those of you afraid of the crop top trend, let this be a lesson to you. The crop tops of 2014 are not worn the same way the crop tops of 2001 were. It’s not about showing off your belly ring anymore (for the record, I never had one). I mean depending on your age, the occasion, and how many sit-ups you do, I guess you could still show a bunch of midriff and get away with it. But if you’re over 20, aren’t going clubbing in Miami, and can’t remember the last time you did a sit-up (unless you count time time you had to stretch really far to reach the bag of chips at the end of your bed), you still don’t have to cast off the crop top trend. If you layer it over a longer shirt like I’m doing here, you don’t have to show even a sliver of skin if you don’t want to. If you’re slightly more daring, I also love the idea of wearing a crop top with a high waisted skirt, so you just see a hint of skin right above the waist. I’m definitely going to try that some weekend when it warms up a little more! I might do a few sit-ups before I do it though…just to be safe.

So what do you think about crop tops now? Have I convinced you? If the idea intrigues you but you don’t want to spend money on one, you can always temporarily “hem” a shirt with fabric tape! Man, I am just full of helpful tips today. You’re welcome.
