Just a couple days after we started the whole quarantine, lock down, working from home thing, it was our 15th dating anniversary. Normally we would celebrate with a date night, but since we couldn’t go out, we did the next best thing at home. It seemed silly at first, but it actually turned out quite lovely.

So, if you and your (co-habitating) significant other are feeling like you need a night “out” (which you probably are), here’s your guide to making the best of a shitty situation:

1. Get gussied up like you would if you were actually going out (assuming gussying is in your usual routine). At a minimum, maybe change out of your PJs.

2. Order in from your favorite local restaurant. If you have any “save for a special occasion” wine/bourbon/whatever, bust it out. We popped a bottle of sparkling wine we brought home from our trip to Napa last year. (Check out my adorable wife and our delicious spread here.)

3. Clear off your table if you need to. (We have been working from our one and only table, so we moved everything off so we didn’t feel like we were eating in our “office.”)

4. Light some candles, or otherwise try to get some mood lighting going.

5. Here’s where it gets silly, but don’t knock it til you try it. Play “restaurant sounds” through Spotify on one device and your preferred background music through another device. We went with the “Dinner Jazz” Pandora station.

6. Finally, talk about your day as if you haven’t been stuck in the same house together for what seems like years. 🙂

If you have kids be sure to put them in their cages. Cheers!

Correct me if I’m wrong (I’m not), but what you wear on a Saturday night has less to do with Saturday night’s activity and more to do with what you have to wear Monday through Friday. When I was in law school, I wore jeans a lot and was generally pretty casual, so even a simple movie date on the weekend was an excuse to put on a cute dress. But now that I wear skirts and dresses to work most days, by Saturday I’m excited to put on some jeans or leggings.

Naturally, I spiff ’em up with some killer heels, fancy earrings, and my new monogrammed Gigi New York clutch I got for Christmas. I’m just fancy like that, no matter the day.
