While I wouldn’t say I got many nuggets of fashion wisdom from my mom as a child, I do remember her being very attentive to color and skin tone. She would always tell me if something “wasn’t a good color on me.” Good advice, for sure, but it also led to a closet that was almost entirely blue because that’s the color that looks best on me.
Over the years I’ve welcomed pretty much every color into my closet, but I had been holding off on orange. I thought a very indoor (read: pale) white girl like me would just look like a traffic cone in orange. Well, that might be true, but when people say “you could stop traffic,” that’s a good thing, right? I’m going for it.
Sure, not every color looks as good on me as blue, but a one-color life is no life at all. So sorry, mom, but I’m ignoring your advice. But I remember all the stuff about feminism and doing your homework.
