Someone (it might have been me) said I looked like I was going on a classy safari in this dress. So I obviously had to buy it, as classy safarian (safarier? safariee?) is my go-to look for everyday. A normal safari is generally warmer from what I understand, and practical footwear is required. But for a classy safari, layers and ankle boots are the way to go. Then you just replace the binoculars with a cute suede crossbody, and you’re ready to observe commuters in their natural habitat.

Tomorrow I head to NYC for my nerd conference in the midst of Fashion Week madness. Follow me on Instagram (@sarahsreallife) if you want the play-by-play!

I got to work around 9 on Friday, and by 10 I had already gotten at least three compliments on these boots. I wear cute shoes all the time (as you know) so I can only assume these are remarkable because not many people brave ankle boots that aren’t your basic black or brown.

Not me, friends. I will boldly go where no boot has…well this is getting cheesy, but you get the idea. My best advice for styling uniquely colored boots is to keep it easy. Just match the boots to a sweater and throw on some dark wash skinny jeans. There are definitely more interesting things to do with burgundy suede booties, but for those of us who work in a law office in the Midwest, matchy matchy with jeans is a good casual Friday option.

You can find my burgundy sweater here and boots here (both on sale!), and below are a few more matchy matchy sweater/boot combos I came up with for your viewing / shopping / outfit planning pleasure:
