In case you missed the memo, we bought a house. [pause for applause]

We get possession next week so we can finally start moving in soon! After almost 6 years in the same apartment with our mismatching hand-me-down furniture, it was about time to upgrade. On the other hand, we’re still not exactly rich. There’s only one solution…

ROAD TRIP!!!

Yep, last weekend we hit the road and drove to glamorous West Chester, Ohio, to visit the place where weak relationships go to finally fizzle out and die: IKEA. I’m happy to say we came out still married and with money left in our bank account. We spent part of our 2-hour car ride making a list and a plan, which helped us stay focused on the things we really needed and couldn’t find for a better deal elsewhere.

You ready for the funny part? For some reason it did not cross either of our minds that it might be a good idea to rent an SUV. Apparently we thought it would be perfectly fine to drive a Hyundai Elantra to Ikea, where we intended to buy multiple pieces of furniture. The punch line is: after 5 hours (not exaggerating) of shopping, I had to go back and return one of the bookshelves we bought because there was no possible way to fit it in the car with everything else. Other than our small car fail, it was a successful trip. And now we have an excuse to go back and see more of West Chester. Silver lining?

I’ve become a big Kendra Scott jewelry fan recently. Thanks to Rocksbox*, I’ve been able to test drive a few pieces over the past couple months, most recently this fun tassel necklace. This is the perfect time of year to wear a tassel necklace: graduation season! I remember when I graduated law school last year, a lot of my classmates used the phrase “the tassel was worth the hassle.” Now that I’m a year out, I think I can confidently use that phrase and mean it. All that hard work was totally worth it, because not only do I have an amazing sense of accomplishment, I have a job where I do something that I actually studied and find really interesting. Trademark law sounds boring to a lot of people, but it’s my jam. The icing on the cake: I get to wear fun jewelry to the office. And isn’t that the American dream?

Congrats to all the new grads out there! Rock that tassel!
