When: Saturday // Weather: 70s and cloudy // Real life: playing outside with my family
Recently I arranged for a fun little campaign with Hawaiian Tropic that happened to work out so I would receive their new Silk Hydration Weightless Lotion Sunscreen just in time for the 4th of July weekend. Perfect, right? Well, in typical unpredictable Indiana fashion, our 4th of July weekend was cool and cloudy at best, cool and rainy at worst.
Then I realized this was perfect after all. Everybody remembers to wear sunscreen when its 90 degrees and sunny and they’re going to the pool, but most people don’t bother when it’s overcast or they aren’t in a bikini. As someone with very fair, sensitive skin, I have to think about sun protection any time I’m outside with exposed skin for more than 30 minutes.
I really like the Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless Lotion Sunscreen as an everyday sunscreen because it’s much more light and breathable than your typical sunscreen that you have to rub in for 5 freaking minutes to get the white streaks to fade. It also has a lighter scent – a little beachy, but not too sunscreeny. So now all of you who avoid putting on sunscreen because it’s gross and smelly, well, find another excuse! Oh, and the best part is that I noticed my hands were crazy soft after I put it on. If I had looked at the part of the bottle that says the sunscreen has shea butter in it, I wouldn’t have been so surprised. (Way to read, Sarah.)

I also sampled the Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Ultra Radiance After Sun Moisturizer, which is supposed to be soothing on your skin after you’ve been in the sun. Thanks to our weird weather this past weekend, I didn’t get to use the moisturizer for its intended purpose, but it does feel and smell nice!

Thankfully, we had one dry day in the long weekend. My parents were visiting so we took full advantage of the chance to be outside. We did three of my favorite outdoor activities: walking along the canal downtown, eating and drinking on patios, and hearing some great music at Symphony on the Prairie. And, yeah, maybe I didn’t really need sunscreen, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. And by “sorry,” I mean “having my legs match my red shoes.”
Thanks to Hawaiian Tropic for giving me an excuse to remind you all about skin protection. Stay safe out there in the sun (or clouds), friends!
