We started off October with one of the most Octobery things ever – apple picking! Sure, you can get the same apples from the grocery store for the same price (or less), but where’s the fun in that? We like to think of apple picking as “fruit hunting.” We’re in it for the thrill of the chase.

And we chased down a big ol’ bag of apples. They didn’t see it coming (because they’re apples).

Here’s what we’ve done with them so far: We sliced and sauteed a few in ghee and cinnamon, and used those to top yogurt and pancakes. We turned a bunch of them into apple sauce, and I used some of that apple sauce in a batch of pumpkin oat muffins. Then last night for dinner we made a really yummy dish of baked apples and butternut squash (recipe here).

Yeah, you could say it’s been very busy and very apply in my kitchen this month. But as an apple hunter, I feel it’s important to honor the life of every apple I kill by not letting it go to waste.

I’m tragically behind on blogging…this outfit is from nearly a month ago. But I’m on vacation this week (greetings from the Outer Banks), so that means I get to play catch up! Once upon a time, blogging was in fact a hobby that I did for fun, and not just something I tried to squeeze in on days I wasn’t working until 8pm. Not that I’m complaining. My job is fantastic and I love it and all my bosses are smart and wonderful and completely flawless and some of them read this blog from time to time.

Moving on. The point is, this summer has been incredibly busy — with work and play, including taking in a couple shows at Indy Fringe, when I wore this outfit. One of the shows we saw was Josephine, a burlesque cabaret dream play about the life of Josephine Baker. I don’t usually feel feelings at live theater (or just ever, really), but this one was very powerful. The show is touring around different fringe festivals, so I definitely recommend it if you can catch it!
