“OK, class. Put down your Tamagotchis. Today we’re making clay pots.”

I feel like this outfit gives me a very middle school art teacher vibe. But I thought my middle school art teacher was pretty cool, so I’m going with it. Also, I’m not totally up to date on what the kids are in to these days, but I assume Tamagotchis are still all the rage? No? Slap bracelets maybe? C’mon, I thought the 90s were back in style! Ugh, I give up. I’ll just be over here blasting No Doubt on my portable CD player.

Where do we stand on Barbie these days? Symbol of outdated beauty ideals, or beloved classic toy? Maybe I’m supposed to think Barbie is anti-feminist (as I am pro-feminist to a sometimes annoying degree), but…I really don’t have any problem with Barbie.

Yeah, her proportions are completely ridiculous, but she’s a toy. I played with Lincoln Logs and never thought my house should be made of plastic sticks. I totally get the argument that Barbie might give impressionable young girls a warped view of beauty, but I don’t think it’s fair to pin that all on Barbie – poor bitch is just trying to take her pink convertible for a tune up like the rest of us.

I’m the worst possible source for parenting tips, but if you ask me, there’s nothing wrong with letting your daughters (or sons) play with Barbies as long as you’re also teaching them body positivity and all that jazz.

All that to say – this pink blazer makes me feel like Barbie in the most empowered way possible.
