This Labor Day weekend, my lovely city of Indianapolis put on the inaugural White River Arts & Music Festival, aka WARMfest. Not that I have a lot of music festival experience for comparison, but I’m going to go ahead and say that WARMfest is the best one ever. I say that because (1) I’m biased because it’s my own city and (2) it really was fantastic.

If there are any WARMfest organizers reading, you guys did a great job! I can’t imagine how much work it was to find so many talented bands from all over the country – of so many genres – and get them all here for 3 days on 5 stages. Not to mention all the food trucks and local artisans and boutiques. I was very impressed…If I didn’t know this was the first year for the festival, I never would have guessed.

These photos are from Sunday. We were there from about 3:30 to 7:00, but it was a million degrees so 3.5 hours felt like a lot longer. Good day for a breezy dress and a Panama hat, right?

We went in knowing basically nothing about any of the groups, but it was kind of nice that way. No expectations means an open mind and some new favorite bands. Kristin’s favorite from Sunday was JD Wilkes and the Dirt Daubers (rockabilly) , and mine was Machines are People Too (poppy indie rock – if you like Neon Trees, you might like these guys too).

We had such a good time Sunday that we went back Monday night for the third and final day. Be sure to follow me on Bloglovin’ and check back tomorrow for more WARMfest. You can also see my photos on Instagram.

Souvenir Tee…in Real Life

I’m usually not one to buy souvenir t-shirts when I’m on vacation, but I made an exception for this cute shirt from the High Line (if you don’t remember what that is, check this post).

I think the reason I don’t get souvenir tees is that every other boringly dressed person wears that kind of shirt with jeans and calls it a day. But – since it’s me – I had to find a cute way to wear mine. I came up with some souvenir tee-wearing guidelines along the way:

  1. Unless you’re just going to wear it as PJs, get a shirt that actually fits you. If you’re petite like me, check for kids’ shirts.
  2. Pair it with a bottom that’s not your typical jeans or shorts. Try something unexpected like a mini skirt or patterned cropped pants.
  3. Put a cute jacket over it. It will cover up part of the t-shirt’s message and make it more mysterious 😉
  4. Take the time to do your hair and put on lipstick. That makes what you’re wearing more of an outfit and not just something you threw on to go grocery shopping.
  5. One tip I didn’t try in this outfit: Pair your tee with bold statement accessories. See this other blogger’s look for inspiration!
  6. Another idea I might try next time I wear this shirt: layer it over a dress and maybe even belt it or knot it…sort of like I did with a plain t-shirt here and here.

And now a walk down memory lane with my striped skirt. It’s the remix…
