If you had to come up with an outfit to represent your state (and you couldn’t just spell it out on your t-shirt), what would you choose? I know it’s a weird question, but I had to answer it because I accepted the challenge from Boohoo.com. And you know how I love a challenge.

Basically I had to pick out an outfit that showcases the style of my state, Indiana. Honestly, I don’t think there’s a great way to encompass Indiana style. Can you wear a dress made of recycled basketballs? Possibly, but Boohoo doesn’t make one (good choice on their part, I’d say). I decided the best thing to do would be to come up with some colors that represent very “Hoosier” things. I went with yellow for corn and blue for the Colts. Personally, I couldn’t give 2 hoots about the Colts or football in general. If the NFL ceased to exist tomorrow, not a single tear would be shed from these eyes. But I share this view with approximately 3 other people in the entire state, so I’m going to take one for the [home] team this time. Plus, it’s not like I actually had to put on a jersey – I can definitely get on board with a cute, girly, totally non-sports-related dress! Something tells me you can too. So go ahead and move to Indiana and we’ll hang out and not watch sports.

I find the phrase “a pop of color” to be a heinous cliché. Kind of like “day-to-night.” That’s not to say I don’t like pops of color. In fact, I’m a big fan, as you might have noticed if you have functioning eyeballs (style blogs are probably lost on you otherwise). Sometimes I even go with two pops of different colors like I did here. I just hate calling them that because everyone else does. But I guess there really isn’t a better phrase. It’s like “moist” – everyone seems to hate that word, but there’s not a great alternative when you want to describe something moist (“Mmmmm, I love how this cake isn’t dry but also isn’t liquified!” What? No. It’s moist.)

But I still feel like there are other options here. “A burst of bright,” perhaps? Oooh, yeah, I like that. Let’s start using that instead. And before you know it, “burst of bright” will be in every fashion magazine known to woman and then I’ll hate it. So it goes.

P.S. Happy JULY!
