Black jumpsuits are so chic, don’t you think? I mean, look at this one. Or that one. Well, I tried one on recently and let me tell you…it was not so chic. I looked like a mechanic at an upscale garage. Like maybe I only worked on Jaguars, but still. Not cute. The trouble with a full-length, one-piece garment is that there are so many  things that can go wrong. They have to be made long enough for tall girls, which means a lot of spare fabric for girls like me. And I wouldn’t wear a jumpsuit often enough to make it worth the cost of alterations. So I faked it. I paired black drapey pants with a waist-defining black top in a similar fabric. Voila – the look of a jumpsuit without the long bathroom breaks.

Sometimes you really want to wear a glamorous pair of sunglasses, but it’s either too cloudy or too late in the day. Solution! The sunglasses clutch. You cat wear your cat eyes without running into things. It’s a win-win and there’s less bruising.

On this particular sunglasses-at-night occasion, the clutch was extra perfect because it added some subtle patriotism for my 4th of July outfit. If you think I look too dressy to go to a cookout or watch fireworks, you’re right. Luckily, we decided to switch it up this year and go to the movies! It was actually pretty great – it’s rare to go on a date on Saturday night and not worry about waiting in line or trying to find the movie that hasn’t sold out yet. The theater was super quiet because everyone else was out watching things explode. And after spending most of the holiday scrubbing every last inch of my apartment before moveout, I was happy to have an excuse to get gussied (read: cleaned) up.

Hope you all had a fun 4th of July too (and may your 8th of July be TWICE as fabulous).
