I feel like I’ve said this before, but I’m hoping you all don’t really pay that much attention to what I say every day so I’ll just go ahead and say it again. I’m not a “uniform” person, but I am an outfit equation person. Lately my outfit equation has been dress or skirt + tall boots. My feet and most of my legs stay cozy but I don’t feel too covered up with tights. Pretty soon it’ll be all tights, all the time, but I’ve found I wear darker colors, and less colors overall, when tights are in the mix because it just looks better and more streamlined. I mean, imagine this outfit with black tights. If you’re wrinkling your brown skeptically right now, you’re having the correct reaction. I think that would be one too many colors. Even a bag of Skittles would be like, “Girl, take it down a notch.” So before we plunge tragically into the dark, sad death of winter (happy holidays!), I’m going to keep subtracting tights from the equation.

I know I’m not the only introvert whose wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/BFF is an extrovert, so listen up, fellow anti-socialites. I figured out how to convince my “what-are-we-doing-tonight?!” other half that it’s fun to stay home on Saturday night: I called it a slumber party. We put on cute PJs, had taco dip for dinner, watched two dark comedies starring former SNL cast members (Obvious Child and Welcome to Me), and had fresh-baked cookies delivered for a late-night snack. Then we played “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” with our cat. SHE LOVED IT, I swear. So the key is: make staying home sound like an event and you can convince those social butterflies in your life to give you a break from peopling. Because peopling is so hard. All the talking and smiling and acting like a pleasant person? Exhausting.

What does my story have to do with this outfit? Not much, but this is what I wore on Friday when I stayed out til 1am talking and smiling and acting like a pleasant person (ish), which is how I earned the right to make the Saturday night non-plans.
