Isn’t it interesting the range of fashion you see in an airport? You’ve got people in full makeup and 4″ platform heels (I never understand that), and people who legit look like they woke up under an overpass. I tend to go for somewhere in the middle – something loose and/or stretchy, shoes that are easy to slip on and off, and very little jewelry that would set off the body scanner.

Unfortunately my recent travel wasn’t a tropical vacation, but a trip to central North Carolina for the memorial service for my grandpa who passed away a few days after Christmas. I definitely had some rough moments over the holidays thinking about how much I would miss him. But it made me feel better to put things in perspective. I have two friends who lost their brothers (both young) in the past year. I don’t even know how much that must hurt to think about all the things they could have done and the people they could have become if their lives hadn’t been ended so suddenly. Losing my grandpa was still sad, but I don’t have to feel that kind of regret. He was 97 and lived a wonderfully full life and did some amazing things. He was in the Navy in WWII and was almost blown up twice. After the war, he went to seminary school  but he didn’t have any money so he just started showing up to classes (he did eventually enroll and get a real degree though)! Then as the minister at a baptist church, he invited a black minister to preach from his pulpit. In Virginia… in 1962. Quite a guy. Anyway, our little family reunion might have been for a somber occasion, but in the end I think we all laughed more than we cried.

Well, this post has really taken a turn, hasn’t it? Let’s all blow our noses and go back to enjoying how cute my hat is.

You know what my favorite thing is about winter? There’s always something to complain about. Like if it’s raining in January, people are all “Ugh, rain is so gross. It’s winter; it should be snowing.” And then as soon as it snows, people are all, “The roads are a mess and it’s too cold. I’m ready for spring.” We got a taste of both this weekend so there was plenty of complaining to go around. And that’s wonderful. In this day and age, with all the death and destruction and Donald Trump, it’s unhealthy for one’s psyche to keep the frustration bottled up. Might as well let it out on something non-controversial.

Just to keep from being a total Negative Nancy, I’ll admit the snow is pretty beautiful, and I do love an excuse to cozy up in scarves and boots and hats…or better yet, in my PJs on my couch under my new faux fur throw. 🙂

P.S. Did you see my “New Years Continuations” post this weekend? It’s different from what I usually put here on the blog, but it’s been a long time coming and I put a lot of thought into what I wanted to share with you. I’m happy to say that Fran included it in her weekly top 3 post, so my health and fitness advice is officially doctor recommended. 😉
