As much as I love the idea of having this perfectly edited wardrobe with a few high-quality basics and just a small(ish) collection of unique pieces that make me look impossibly chic all the time, I’m just not cut out for it. I like to shop, and I like to constantly rotate new things in and old things out (read more about my “rotating closet” mentality here).

But one nice thing about being a shopaholic is that I can forget about something I stuffed at the end of a rack (like a long vest), and when I rediscover it months later, it’s like it’s new again! And it feels even newer when mixed with the striped shirt and bright loafers I just bought.

I’m guessing sometime in the next 6-8 weeks, I’ll leave those loafers in a bag that I throw in a corner (did I mention I’m not that tidy?) and won’t touch again for a month. Then at some point I’ll be scouring every bag I own looking for tampons and I’ll find those loafers and be so excited. It’s the circle of life, folks. And it moves us all.

Here’s some fun news I don’t think I’ve shared on the blog yet: I got a new car! It was way overdue. My old car, Cyd the Sentra, was 11 years old and had lots of bumps and bruises and rattles (which also describes me on some days). Cyd still had my faded, peeling Indiana Law sticker on the back, so people who saw it probably said to themselves, “That poor girl spent all her money on law school and now she’s a waitress. How sad.” But now I have a brand new Hyundai Ioniq hybrid that tells the world I’m a relatively successful adult human who makes responsible financial decisions and cares about reducing her carbon footprint.

This is my very first new car, and it feels SO. FANCY. To give you an idea of the level of upgrade, here’s a list of all the bells and whistles that I had on my old car: Power windows, and um…a horn.

And here’s a list of the bells and whistles on the new car: Heated seats (my favorite part!), cruise control, push button start, keyless entry, backup camera, blind spot detector, touchscreen dashboard, and I think there’s a button that turns it into a spaceship. And best of all, it’s a hybrid! I’ve had it for 2 weeks and I’ve only used half the gas tank. I’m pretty much in love with Leslie (that’s the new car’s name).

Oh, and she’s gray so she matches all my outfits. 🙂
