Well, folks, it’s that time of year! That time when I show off a little skin, and douse it in sunscreen lest I burn to a crisp in 15 minutes. I go from Casper to Elmo with a quickness. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a spray tan, just for fun, but I’m torn. I’ve never understood the whole obsession with being tan, nor have I ever understood why people like to tease me for being pale. As if being pale is innately ugly or something I should be embarrassed about. What’s the deal with that? I mean, have you people ever seen Cate Blanchett?! Anyway, I’ve always embraced my paleness. It’s just what my skin looks like. So if I get a spray tan, would I be abandoning my principles? But on the other hand, I wear makeup most days, and how is this any different? And I must admit, a little glow is nice and summery, and why knock something before I’ve tried it?

Time to weigh in, Internet. Here are your options: (1) Sarah, go get some faux color; (2) Sarah, don’t give in to the tan pressure; or (3) Sarah, children are getting separated from their parents at the border. Please shut up. Your problems are not problems.

On our last day in Seattle, we really didn’t have much planned, but that works out fine in a laid back city. We found breakfast at The Wandering Goose (a peanut butter, banana, and honey biscuit sandwich? yes please.) then walked over to Volunteer Park. When we first walked in, I was all, “OK, yeah, nice park but nothing special,” but then it just got better and better. I mean, look at those bushes. I’ve never seen flowering bushes that big before. And they were everywhere. There’s also a conservatory with all kinds of cacti, and what say Pacific Northwest like cacti, am I right?!

Other cultural highlights included the Seattle Art Museum (wonderfully curated contemporary collection) and an adults-only underground tour.

The day also involved – are you ready for this? – lavender avocado vegan ice cream. And…AND. Beer-battered wild caught halibut tacos. I can confidently say my favorite part of Seattle was the food. We also ended up near the bar where Nirvana played its first gig (or one of its first, I don’t remember), but we were too full from all the food and tired from all the walking, so we just took a picture outside like the lame tourists we were. Still, Seattle did entertain us. I’m not in a rush to fly across the country again just for pretty flowers and good food, but I won’t be mad if life brings me back there again!
