Grown

When: Sunday, April 10, 2022 // Weather: 60s // Real life: Sunday Funday at the art museum + cocktails and dinner

Many moons ago when I was a brand new college grad entering the work force, I used to buy lots of tweed and other “mature” looking clothes because I desperately wanted to look older and not like the wee baby 22-year-old idiot I was. Youth is wasted on the young, as they say.

22-year-old me would have worn a jacket like this one (but an H&M version because I made $8/hour) with a pencil skirt and heels because that’s what serious, grown-up, working women wear. Right? I was basically Romy and Michele when they wear suits and put their hair in French twists and ask for the “business woman special” at that diner. (Just for kicks, check out this post from 2013.)

You see where this is going, right? Fast forward a *small handful* of years and I still like tweed, but I intentionally pair it with distressed jeans and sneakers …in the hopes that I’ll get mistaken for a 20-something.

OH HEY. Unintentional 3-month blog hiatus is officially over. I can’t believe I used to take outdoor photos nearly every day, even in frigid weather, for years. Ah, to be young again.

Maybe it’s lack of interest, maybe it’s old(er) age, maybe it’s having a job that is much better suited to my skills than blogging and pays me enough that I don’t feel the need to blog for “shopping money” but… I feel zero guilt for not doing the blog thing all winter!

Then again, it was also kinda fun to go to the park with the ol’ DSLR and have Kristin yell weird things at me to make me smile and look less like a robot. (I think she nailed it, don’t you?) Speaking of Kristin, can you believe we’ve been a couple for 17 years today?! “How could that be? You’re so young!” “Relationship goals!” “Hottest couple ever!” Oh stop. You’re too kind.

I posted some slightly embarrassing very old photos of the two of us to my Instagram stories earlier today, and shortly after noticed a drop in followers. (My follower count doesn’t really move much, so it’s easy to notice when it changes.) It’s a pretty great strategy — if you’re wondering whether any of your social media followers are bigots, just post something a little queer and the problem takes care of itself!
