When: April 23 // Weather: 60s // Real life: Day 3 in Paris
Day 3 in Paris! Are you ready?? In case you missed it, be sure to read about Day 1 and Day 2 first!
Day 3 started with a behind-the-scenes tour of a small bakery in Montmartre. That’s where we learned that France doesn’t have hygiene laws. Did we still eat the freshly baked croissant and baguette we got at the end? You bet your sweet derrière we did. And they were delicious.
Next up was the Louvre. Several people told me it wasn’t as good as lots of other museums and Paris, and they were right. There are too many people and it’s incredibly hard to navigate. There were just a few pieces I really wanted to see (mostly Gericault’s Raft of the Medusa), and it took for-freaking-ever to find them. Still, how could I not go to Louvre? So now I’ve been and I have the pictures to prove it.
After resting our feet and refueling at (you guessed it) a random café that ended up being really really good, we had to get to yet another small group tour. This one was a tour of rooftop bars. I know, right?! How cool. Except, well, cool but also awkward. The “small group” turned out to be just us and the tour guide, Angelo. I wish I could properly describe Angelo to you because he was quite a character, but I don’t think I’m that good of a writer. Suffice it to say that, while he was very nice, his English was not great, and that makes for a very awkward evening when it’s just you, your wife, and Angelo, sitting at a table at a hip rooftop bar at sunset in Paris. It could have been very romantic if he had just waited a few yards away, but instead we had to figure out what the hell he was trying to ask us about (the topics ranged from jazz musicians to U.S. gun control laws). But hey, at least we got a good story out of that night!
And the night was far from a waste – we saw gorgeous views, had cocktails, and once we ditched our buddy Angelo, we went down to the Eiffel Tower. I highly recommend going after the sun is down; the line to get in was really short! We didn’t go up in the tower, just pranced around taking goofy selfies underneath. I know the locals hate the thing, but it really is impressive, and if you ask me, the sparkly lights are lovely!
