I care a lot more about the quality of my clothes than I used to, but sometimes I would rather just stock up on staples that I know won’t last forever. Like button-up shirts. Those collars are going to get dirty from the oils on your skin or from makeup whether the shirt cost $15 or $100. And you’re probably going to sweat like a beast under your sweater or your blazer and at some point it just won’t be acceptable human behavior to keep that shirt anymore. So there’s no point in spending big bucks. Sorry, was that an overshare? Just trying to keep it real. Don’t act like I’m the only one with pores and glands and whatnot.

Obviously, good fit still matters. I really like how J. Crew Factory’s shirts fit me, so I grabbed 3 of them during the last big sale. I’m also a fan of “the Shirt” from Boden, which just happens to be on sale in lots of fun prints right now.

  1. I feel the same way about certain items, especially like on trend pieces. I buy a lot of my button downs from J.Crew factory! I find the quality to be really good for the price. I agree, I tend to ruin the collars, or sweat in them a lot more since I layer them so much! I love this button down that you used here, and love the way you styled this whole outfit!

  2. I personally don’t wear collared shirts, but run into the same thing buying shirts for my husband. He ruins them so fast so there’s no reason for us to spend tons of money on them. Long story short, I agree.

  3. I’m definitely one for quality over quantity, but some stuff I think it’s totally acceptable to skimp on. As long as the collared shirt fits well, who cares if it’s $15 or $150. I also need some tips for layering from you because I’m terrible at it. Ha!
