I made it. April’s over, and that means the Top 10 Remix is over (if you’re totally lost, get up to speed here). Honestly, I am so relieved. The longer it went on, the more I was ready for it to be finished. I know, I know, it was my own damn idea. But that means I can complain about it without hurting anyone’s feelings. (You can complain too. It’s really fine.)

Originally I thought the challenge would be fun…and it was at first. It was fun going through my closet and picking out the things that were most “me.” And it was fun seeing what other bloggers picked for their Top 10.

But after 10 days or so, the whole thing started to feel like a chore. I thought the challenge would make it easier to pick out my daily outfits, but in reality it usually made it harder. Sometimes I would have an idea of what I wanted to wear, but then I would realize that NONE of my Top 10 items could be mixed in to that idea. And since I’m the host of this challenge, I put a lot of pressure on myself to stick to it like I promised.

I also thought this challenge would help me get more in touch with my personal style. Meh. Not really. Don’t get me wrong, I liked all these outfits, but not any more than I liked my outfits in March.

Finally, I felt a lot of pressure (again, all self-imposed) to document every outfit. In a non-challenge month, ordinarily I miss a couple photo shoots due to weather, busy days, or general laziness, and I don’t sweat it. This past month, we started house hunting, there was a lot of rain, I was adjusting to more responsibilities at work, and I was kind of stressed and nervous leading up to that fashion show I hosted mid-month. There were a lot of days I would have rather gone straight home, put on sweats, and poured myself a glass fishbowl of wine, but instead I had to take outfit photos. DAMN ME AND MY GENIUS IDEAS.

Now that I think about it, maybe the challenge idea itself was good, it just wasn’t a good idea for me to do it in April. I don’t know. I’ve lost perspective. I’m looking forward to hearing what my other Top 10 Remix bloggers thought! The final (yay!) linkup is below! Please remember to include a link back to me in any post you add. You rock.

  1. Actually the challenge has been very helpful to me – on the days when I didn’t know what to wear, I could always reach for one of my Top 10 pieces and build an outfit around that. So I think it’s definitely a success (for me at least).

  2. Thank you Sarah for hosting this challenge! I had fun participating, but to be completely honest, I did tire of my choices towards the end of the challenge. I’d come up with an outfit, then realize it didn’t meet the challenge, so I’d either have to incorporate one of the items or scrap it and come up with something else. A bit frustrating, but I’m still really glad I participated. Thank you so much!

  3. well, I really liked the challenge, but I kind of cheated due to being very pregnant, so my items were more “things that currently fit” than the true intention.

  4. I like all of the outfits you came up with – my favourite pieces you chose have to be the mint crossbody bag and the polka dot shirt! 🙂

I didn’t take part in the challenge, but I do take part in a few style challenges on instagram and I know what yo mean. Some days you just want to wear whatever and dressing for a particular theme or prompt or item feels restrictive. Other days it’s good to have some motivation for what to wear from the wardrobe.

I still keep doing challenges though, they do help me wear more of what I won, look at my wardrobe differently, and I do have more fun days than bad days 🙂

  5. I loved the idea of the challenge – but totally understand some of the struggles you faced. Here’s to doing it again in the future, maybe with a few tweaks!
    xx

  6. I have mixed feelings about the challenge too. I loved the idea and I found myself trending towards one or two specific items out of the top ten over and over. I should have gone with my first thought and picked all shoes or all accessories! Just kidding. I liked it – but maybe for a week, not a whole month. Thanks for hosting and for thinking up such a great idea!

  7. I take my hat off to you Sarah! (Well, I would if I included one in the challenge.) I didn’t manage to stick to the challenge very well.

I’m sorry I missed the final link up. We’ve has a string of long weekends over here and I lost track of dates. I finally got the last post up today.

Thanks for hosting the challenge and showing us that it could be done!

  8. I really enjoyed participating in your challenge, Sarah! I completely failed at taking pictures (I’m still documenting my outfits on my blog at this point, whoops). The hardest part was choosing items that I felt were “me.” I dn’t really think there is a whole lot in my closet that is “me” because I’m note really sure what my style is, to be quite honest. Still trying to work that all out! I did like basing my outfits around a specific item, though – I like planning outfits when there is structure, as in a challenge 🙂
