Welcome to “Budgeting Bloggers: April,” otherwise known as “the Month Sarah Bought All of the Shoes.” You should see the floor of my closet – it’s a little crowded. It’s a good thing we’re looking for a house. Speaking of which, I don’t plan on carrying my unspent April budget over to May – gotta save up! (Plus, that money was kind of already spent on my donation to Heifer International. Oh yeah, funny story.)
My Budget
- ~$221 ($150 starting budget, plus $71 unspent last month)
- ~$7 (refund on unfair shipping charges from last month’s Ann Taylor order #boom #lawyered)
- ~$449 (blog income)
= $677
What I Spent (pictured above, starting top left)
- ~$102 on a striped midi skirt and black drapey pants (both on sale currently) from J. Crew (total orig. $208 – stacked coupon on top of in-store sale!)
- ~$26 on chunky nude pumps from Nordstrom Rack (retail price $70)
- ~$75 on black and white print haircalf flats from DSW (retail price $195 – score!)
- ~$49 on my Le Tote subscription – my favorite borrowed piece was the purple French Connection dress above, which retails for $188
- ~$133 on gray suede pumps and flounce hem dress from Ann Taylor (total orig. $247)
- ~$136 on a bunch of stuff that’s currently in the mail from Loft (I took advantage of the recent 70% off flash sale!): blue lace top, floral sweatshirt, striped lace dress, floral sundress, colorblock varsity jacket, cateye sunglasses, and crystal necklace (total orig. $468)
- ~$61 on mint pumps from Macy’s (orig. $79)
= $582 (total retail value: $1,316)
Look at those bargain shopping skills!

I have been eyeing that J. Crew striped midi skirt – can I ask what size you got?

Sure, I got a 00 so it would fit nicely on my actual waist. (P.S. I hate vanity sizing because now my size makes me feel like I am nonexistent)
I really like that striped lace dress.
Interested to learn how you successfully negotiated the shipping refund. Really like the DSW flats, they look so pretty on.
