I finally figured out how to not look overwhelmed on top when I’m wearing a midi skirt: wear a shirt that actually fits me. It turns out I acquired quite the collection of somewhat loose-fitting tops during law school, all of which look great with skinny jeans, and all of which look frumpy with a full skirt. It doesn’t help that all my favorite stores are doing this vanity sizing thing. I decided not to expand with the rest of America, and somehow my normal size outgrew me. Now I have to get ridiculously small expanded sizes if I don’t want to look like I’m playing dress-up. This sweater is an XXSP – it took me a while to realize that this is apparently what size I am now, even though XXSP sounds like it should be the size of a dog sweater for a Pomeranian. Apparently, to Ann Taylor, it’s also the size of a sweater for a thin adult woman whose height is only 1″ shy of the average. Go figure.
And yes, I’m fully aware that complaining about how I’m too skinny for regular clothes is a good way to continue having no female friends.

Oooh, Ann Taylor is the WORST for vanity sizing. I wear tiny sizes there, too, when everywhere else I’m at least a size larger. Thankfully you found a size that works for you, though, because that sweater is adorable.
Love the polka dots on your sweater!

I totally understand what you mean. I’ve found that the nicer the store/clothes, the smaller the size. I have a 0 petite skirt from Banana Republic and I am normally a 2!
I don’t know what the people do that are less than 5ft and 100lbs!

I know what you mean! I just bought a suit from Ann Taylor and ended up exchanging the 0P jacket for 00P. “There are women smaller than I am, what are they supposed to do? Do they just not get to wear blazers??”
