What’s My Age Again?

If I remember correctly, it was about 4 years ago that rompers for the non-toddler set started getting popular. At any rate, it was 4 years ago that I decided to give the trend a shot. It was a couple months before my 25th birthday and I remember thinking, “Well, Sarah, you’re not getting any younger. If you’re going to wear a onesie, you should do it before you turn 25.” I felt like there should be some kind of age limit on rompers, and I wasn’t sure exactly what it should be, but 24 seemed OK.

After I turned 25, I did wear my romper a couple more times, which I rationalized with the fact that I’m petite and therefore automatically seem younger than I am. That romper ended up shrinking length-wise (which as you can imagine is NOT comfortable) so I went romper-less for a couple years after turning 26. That was also when I started law school, so I was starting to feel too mature for them anyway.

But then the summer before I turned 28 (a year ago), it seemed like rompers got more momentum and they started popping up in stores like Loft. Well, Loft is for adults, right? I might not be able to pull off the rompers at Urban Outfitters anymore, but Loft is another story. So I decided that “grownup” rompers were still totally fine for anyone under 30. So I bought it, and I’ve worn it 3 times over the past year (here, here, and here).

Well, now I’m coming up on birthday #29, and I’ve bought yet another romper. And it’s entirely likely I will wear it (or that other romper, or another one that I haven’t even bought yet) for multiple years. But I won’t even have to keep pushing back the romper age limit because I just won’t count any higher than 29. See how that works? If there’s one thing that law school taught me, it’s how to rationalize pretty much anything.

  2. I could wear rompers every day, but I am still on the hunt for the grown-up version that makes me look sophisticated and chic just like yours! I will have to check out LOFT and cross my fingers I can find one that works with my shortness.

  4. LOL! “Loft is for adults.” I love your logic. As much as I miss wearing rompers, I have yet to find one that I really like the fit of. You make this one look so put together. It’s so effortless looking on you and summer chic.
