Despite what the name of the store suggests, you cannot be 21 forever. I don’t go in there very often, because I find that the older I get, the more sensitive I become to cheap crap. That said, Forever 21 isn’t totally worthless, even to me. It’s the easiest place for me to find cozy sweaters. See, I’m mildly allergic to wool – I don’t break out in hives or anything, but if I wear it for more than 5 minutes I’ll start scratching myself like a meth addict.
As much as I love shopping for fall and winter clothes at stores like J. Crew, it’s always such a letdown when I see a beautiful pile of perfectly folded sweaters in a rainbow of colors, I reach out to pick one up, and I recoil in horror. WHY YOU GOTTA BE SO FANCY WITH YOUR MERINO AND CASHMERE?!
You know where you don’t find merino and cashmere? Forever 21. That place is a haven of synthetic fabrics year-round. Aaaahhh, acrylic. How my sensitive skin loves you.

Aww I picked up an acrylic cable knit poncho from Goodwill the other day and I am sooo in love it. So soft and warm! I also have another acrylic cardigan that I picked up from Target awhile back and I still wear it almost everyday since I bought it. <3
ahh i love your sweater and shirt so much! the shirt makes me nostalgic because that’s one of my favorite places in nyc.
I got this shirt when I visited the High Line last August! It was so cool.

Cashmere is not suppose to give skin irritations. Did you ever try? This is the kind of sweater I wear and I am ok. If you are not ok with cashmere, I guess you have really sensitive skin.
I do have 1 cashmere sweater that doesn’t bother me, but I’ve tried on others that do. I don’t know…I’m weird I guess!
I love this post! I have this same exact problem. I don’t break out in hives, but whenever I wear wool or mohair I end up itchy and with a headache. I have to remind myself to check the product description when shopping online and I frequently get bummed out when I find an awesome sweater is made of wool. I find that Old Navy is a good place to find acrylic and cotton sweaters. Although the stores are such a mess I rarely shop in store and just order online. The upside to this is sweaters are cheaper and that means I can buy more!
Is it bad that I just found this post about your allergy very amusing?
