While I wouldn’t say I got many nuggets of fashion wisdom from my mom as a child, I do remember her being very attentive to color and skin tone. She would always tell me if something “wasn’t a good color on me.” Good advice, for sure, but it also led to a closet that was almost entirely blue because that’s the color that looks best on me.

Over the years I’ve welcomed pretty much every color into my closet, but I had been holding off on orange. I thought a very indoor (read: pale) white girl like me would just look like a traffic cone in orange. Well, that might be true, but when people say “you could stop traffic,” that’s a good thing, right? I’m going for it.

Sure, not every color looks as good on me as blue, but a one-color life is no life at all. So sorry, mom, but I’m ignoring your advice. But I remember all the stuff about feminism and doing your homework.

  1. As a fellow blonde, I know what you mean – some colors are tough to wear! I struggle with yellow, and some oranges. And I, too, have a closet full of blue! Lookin’ good, you’re rocking that orange!

  2. But you’re followed the golden rule about not wearing it right next to your face perfectly. That scarf is so pretty and makes this outfit pop. Great job (and ps. I ignore loads of my mum’s ‘tips’ too – she now reads my blog for my tips!) xo

  3. I love this!!!!! And I think there are so many shades of orange/coral/persimmon, it can work on any skin tone. Plus the scarf cooled it down a little against your skin. Dig it sister!

  4. I find an orange that’s darker, less neon/pumpkin/traffic cone works best on us pale blondes. I really love your scarf and bag!

  5. I think you picked the right shade of orange for you! Plus the scarf breaks it up so its not right on your face.
